Proper Ventilation Helps Your Roof Last Longer
Here is an example of how proper ventilation helps your roof last longer. We had to replace the roof on this multifamily home, and here’s why.
The original roof had inadequate soffit and ridge ventilation. In addition, the bathroom exhaust fans were venting directly inside of the attic. These problems caused enough condensation in the attic over the years to allow mold and mildew to form on the plywood and cause the plywood over the entire roof to rot.
A soffit is a material that lines the underside of a roof’s overhang, also known as the eaves or rafters. Soffits can also be found on the underside of a porch roof.
These ventilation improvements will keep the attic cooler and help to prevent this problem from happening again.
