“As a matter of introduction, I became acquainted with Mr. Joseph Goode approximately five years ago, through a recommendation from one of my closest friends. Joe had successfully completed complex repair and restoration of the roof of my friend’s Victorian home. While I was not in need of major roofing work at the time, I am a strong proponent of “preventative maintenance,” so I asked to be introduced to Joe. I was immediately struck by his individualized, un-pressured approach with clients. He carefully examined my home’s roof, and indicated that all was well for the moment, but within a few years a replacement of the roof would be the best way to keep problems away. I asked Joe to perform periodic checks on the roof, including cleaning and oiling our wooden gutters. Without fail, Joe would appear when scheduled and meticulously perform his work. He always is responsive to phone calls, and if an “urgent” matter, such as a clogged gutter in an inaccessible location was observed, would arrive quickly and remedy the situation.
Last winter, we had a water leak develop around one of our windows. Joe quickly arrived and successfully diagnosed the problem. Despite incredibly frigid conditions, he made the effort to secure a special caulking material that could be optimally applied at low temperatures, which addressed the problem correctly.
This spring, we agreed that it was time to replace our home’s roof. Joe provided an accurate estimate of the charges, and spent considerable time with me and my wife in the selection process for replacement shingles. Given Joe’s knowledge and patient approach with his clients, this portion of the project was a pleasure! Once work began, Joe was always there to properly supervise and work alongside his crew, which varied from one to three persons, depending upon the stage of the project. All of these individuals were true professionals- courteous, neat, and very respectful of our property, including the landscaping around the house. At the end of each day, a comprehensive clean-up insured that no materials were left on the job site to detract from the beauty (and safety) of our home environment. As unanticipated problems (deteriorated roofing board) were uncovered, Joe explained what he found and expertly repaired the damage. Beautiful copper flashing was used, where needed, to secure the affected joints.
Other than weather-related delays, the work has proceeded on schedule. Joe never takes on more than one project at a time, which gives the homeowner the assurance that at the time his project is underway, he (or she) is the most important person!
Now that the job is complete, we marvel at how much more attractive our home is, and rest comfortably that our 103 year old house has a new “lease on life.”
I could not recommend Joe’s services more strongly. He is the exemplar of what a fine craftsman and a gentleman are, and a credit to our American workforce. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions you may have.”

“I have known and worked with Joe Goode on a variety of construction projects for almost fifteen years. Joe is one of those rare old fashioned craftsmen who believes in doing a good job and charging a fair price. He repaired and flashed a slate roof on my mother’s 1879 Victorian in Hyde Park, and put a new roof and an addition on my 1970’s undersized ranch on Martha’s Vineyard. He brought his expertise and fine workmanship, his attention to detail and superb sense of design to both jobs even though the original construction and the nature of the projects were almost 100 years apart.
I am pleased to sing Joe Goode’s highest praises, or shout my recommendations from the roof tops, because if he worked on that roof, I know it will be good for years and years to come.”
