Copper Roofing on a Flat Roof
We recently replaced a small flat roof on a home in Newton with copper roofing. The standing water on the rubber roofing deteriorated the seam along the edge, causing a leak.
The roof deck and insulation were replaced, along with improving the pitch to eliminate any future standing water. Custom-made 16 ounce copper gutters were then installed and tied into a soldered flat lock copper roof to provide the best protection from water, snow and ice damming.
In addition to the beautiful look, copper roofing is used for its superior performance. The seams and flashing details can be soldered instead of using flashing tapes, adhesives and caulking, which are used with other flat roofing materials. Copper roofing provides about three to four times the life expectancy compared to other roofing materials, making it more cost effective.
For this reason, copper can be a surprisingly affordable alternative.
